Believers Extend Help in the Storm's Aftermath

I have just arrived from a day’s trip through Metro Manila and Rizal province visiting our church members. It’s beenĀ  three days since the storm Ondoy has come and gone, and today was the first time I can visit the brethren to see their current situation after the devastation that left Metro Manila and about 24 more provinces under the state of calamity.

We did not hold our worship service last Sunday – we could not, actually, because the families are trapped either in their homes or in shelters where they ran for refuge while the storm surged and poured out so much rainwater in soaked practically the whole metropolis under flood.

I was not aware of their situation until Sunday morning when we were going down to Cubao. With no electricity, no telephone, Internet and mobile communication, and unable to travel beyond 1,000 meters from our residence at the height of the storm, we were virtually cut off from the world.

But on Monday, I realized we needed to do more than just visit the brethren: we must bring something to help them get through the next few days to bring their lives and homes back on track. I called on some of the brethren and we quickly gathered food and clothing for those who were greatly affected.

This morning my wife and I, as well as brothers Wandy and Jeremiah, took a round-trip to the brethren in Antipolo, Malabon, Quezon City, Rodriguez and Pasig to visit them and to share the food and clothing that we were able to gather in such a short time.

As we traversed the major roads to get to the brethren, we saw how much the flood has affected the lives of the people, especially who have not much to live on. Economically, there is so much damage in properties the figures could well go beyond the hundred millions.

I can only thank God no one was harmed among my flock. All that was lost are nothing compared to most of the residents of Pasig, Cainta, marikina, San Mateo, Rodriguez, Quezon City and in many other areas.

So how’s your church doing after the storm? It’s your turn to share and say something…

Pastor, thank you for the visit and the love gift to my family at this time of distress. This gesture surely made affected brethren lighten up from the effects of this ugly typhoon. I praise God for not allowing worse things to have happened to us. Learning that no one was hurt amongst your flock is a great consolation amidst this disaster.

My appreciation to the brothers and sisters who exerted effort and used their resources to help comfort our fellow believers in this time of trouble. God bless you all.

You are very much welcome. We are greatly relieved to know your family was out of harm’s way. I am equally amazed at how the Lord’s protected sis osang during the night she and others spent on the road inside the car, safe and secure in God’s hands.

    Our Lord is truly wonderful!
