Aid Continues to Come In, Churches Struggle to Stand

Four days after the storm that brought devastation, help from churches and individuals keep pouring in. This day brother Wandy and I traveled to Novaliches, Quezon City to personally bring to our brethren the much needed aid. About three families in the Church of the Overcomers under Pastor David Colili suffered the most when their homes were washed away by the flash flood.

The supply, consisting of rice, canned goods, sugar, coffee, noodles and used clothing among others, was packed and prepared by our brethren in San Pedro under Pastor Nonoy Togonon. The relief goods was also made possible by the funds released from our Pastors’ Fund and individual contributions of brethren in San Pedro and our church. The Pastors’ Fund is a special fund that we gather in our monthly ministerial meeting and set aside for emergency and special purposes.

As city governments clear the wreckage of the storm and the flash floods, other churches are also beginning to stand and recover. Those in the cities of Marikina and Pasig were the most badly hit. From what I have heard, Pastor Pardillo and his family stayed the night on the rooftop of their house because the flood reached up to their second floor.

Tales of struggle and horror were told and retold when we arrived at Pastor David’s home. Their house of worship, which is located on the second floor of his residence, became a temporary shelter during after the storm.
