Have you ever witnessed to your family about the works of God in your life? Sometimes we are too fired up to serve God in the farthest places that we forget to share His love to our family circle.
There was a man whom Christ delivered from the powers of darkness in a place called Gadarene. He wanted to follow Christ wherever He went. Instead, the Lord Jesus sent him home with these words: “Return to your house, and tell what great things God has done for you.” The Bible said he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him. (Luke 8.39)
We will not all become preachers, that much is true. But all of us who have experienced the God’s power and grace have the responsibility of becoming His witnesses to our family and friends. Like the young man that was healed from demonic possession, the Lord wants us to show our family what He has done for us.
God wants to save our families too
Did you know that the Ark which God commanded Noah to build was for the salvation of his household, besides the animals? And when God called and established His covenant with Abraham, the man’s children were the primary beneficiaries of God’s blessings.
I believe that God wants to save our family too, not just us. Peter proclaimed in Jerusalem: “For the promise is to you and to your children…” (Acts 2.39) Paul likewise declared this to the prison warden: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” (Acts 16.31)
Open your life for their salvation
Won’t it be great to see your parents, siblings, or children being saved? Certainly. And if you are the first person in your family to receive salvation, I believe you are the Lord’s door into their lives. How would you like to open the way of salvation for your loved ones?
Now, what does it take so your family can get to know the Lord too?
Have concern for their souls. Brother Branham preached one time about “Convinced, then Concerned” in which he showed how a person that has been convinced by the Word of God will have concern for other souls. Are you convinced that God’s Word is the Truth? Are convinced that what the Bible teaches about our time is true? If so, do you love you family? Then you should be concerned with their salvation. You should be crying for their deliverance from the powers of darkness, and plead God to show them His grace like He did to you.
Be bold in your faith. Boldness is about being open and frank about your faith. If you are concern with their salvation, you must not withhold your mouth from speaking about the faith that you have received.
The enemy of boldness is fear. We fear rejection, persecution and reproach. But boldness comes from being sure of your faith and your experience with God. Has God truly done great things in your life? Then you have nothing to afraid of. Be bold in sharing your faith to your family.
Tell what God has done for you, not what you are doing for God. I think one common mistake we Christian commit is that we focus on what we do for the Lord, instead of testifying what God has done in us. Don’t focus on yourself. I’m sure they know enough about you already. But let them see what God has been doing in your life since you believed. Were delivered from the bondage of vices? Were freed from demonic influence? Were you healed from a terrible disease or sickness? Did you learn one important doctrine of God that prompted you to change your religious way and belief?
Bring your Christian family to your home. Have you tried bringing your pastor, or your brothers and sisters, to your home? This is another way effective way of building a bridge between your family and your church. They can help you in witnessing to your loved ones.
Leave the rest to God. There are times when, after you have done your part, our family just won’t receive the faith. You should not fret, or condemn your family to doom. Let the Lord do His work in His own time. If you believe that God can and will save them, hold on to your faith and keep them in your prayers.
